Catalogue spring 2024

We proudly present our latest catalogue, spring 2024! Including all our new and upcoming books on architecture, art and design.

Following Women in Architecture and the reissue of Women in Design, nai010 proudly builds on its project in this spring issue: documenting underrepresented voices. Pioneers. Photography by Women is a collaboration with the National Archives in which the work of 43 female pioneers has been selected from over 15 million photographs. Although many of the photographers – from Susan Meiselas to Eva Besnyö – are world-renowned, the book is full of stories about the lengths they had to go through to be seen, and about how their work was misattributed, forgotten or declared unimportant.

Multiplicity is also a central theme in the project by photographer Luuk Kramer, whose Dutch Waterworks Worldwide captures Dutch waterworks in eight countries on just about every continent. Dutch engineers worked in various different contexts: at the invitation of local rulers or in the wake of colonizing forces, resulting into various perspectives on their contributions. Especially these days, including all these different viewpoints is essential in order to find cross-border water solutions. Maaike Schoorel provides another illustration of how historical legacies can be reevaluated. Maaike Schoorel. Unsung Eve presents extraordinary work created for an exhibition at The Willet-Holthuysen House – one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. In her work, Schoorel explores founder Louisa Holthuysen and the role of (again, often forgotten) women in the creation of our national collections.

Together with Architecture Repurposed by architecture firm Office Winhov – winner of the architect of the year award for 2023 – and a study of the architecture of housing cooperatives, this spring issue offers many inspiring examples of how designing for a better world is a continuous process of building on and recalibrating, imagining and realising. Build with us!
