OASE 91 Building Atmosphere
OASE has invited two leading architects, Peter Zumthor and Juhani Pallasmaa, to engage in a conversation about building atmosphere. In his interview with OASE, Finnish architect Juhani Pallasmaa connects the notion of atmosphere to sensory experience, embodiment and compassion. Peter Zumthor gives OASE a detailed insight in the ways in which atmosphere permeates the design work at his studio in Switzerland. An excerpt of the book Architektur und Atmosphäre by German philosopher Gernot Böhme, and his reflection on the notion of atmosphere in the work of Zumthor and Pallasmaa is also included in this issue. OASE 91 additionally features a number of architectural projects, presented though a reading by literary writers, filmmakers and other professionals in whose disciplines atmosphere is a main concern.
