Yvònne Joris was an avid advocate of the emancipation of applied arts and free design. She followed a dynamic exhibition policy at Het Kruithuis, the forerunner of the Design Museum Den Bosch, of which she was in charge from 1987 to 2009. During this period, the museum acquired internationally important collections of contemporary jewellery and artists’ ceramics.
Yvònne Joris. Pioneer&Terrier tells the story of this extraordinary museum director and her love for modern jewellery, and at the same time provides an overview of the history of the museum to which she was so closely connected. Recent research by the museum staff in collaboration with guest curator and author professor Titus Eliëns provides ample evidence of the rich and ambitious history of the museum. This book discusses high-profile exhibitions Het Kruithuis and the Stedelijk Museum organized as well as (unrealized) museum designs by Borek Šípek and recently discovered building designs by Gerrit Rietveld. Publishing Yvònne Joris. Pioneer&Terrier, the museum does justice to the significance of collector and museum director Yvònne Joris and that of the Design Museum Den Bosch and its forerunners.
