On 12 May 1967, Gijs and Emmy presented their provocative creations in a spectacular show at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. To the sounds of electronic music, models in space-age clothing showed off large aluminium collars, plastic headwear and the Stovepipe Collar, now an icon of Dutch design. The show instantly propelled the design duo into the forefront of modern youth culture. Art historian Marjan Boot and filmmaker Lex Reitsma have reconstructed this sensational fashion show, which led to Gijs and Emmy’s international breakthrough.
