Maria Blaisse Exhibition

The book
With this book, Blaisse shows highlights of her more than 40 years of designing. In The Emergence of Form, Maria Blaisse discusses her in-depth research into form in various materials and the numerous application possibilities. Blaisse herself says of her work, “My work is a kind of Esperanto, a form language for various materials.” In her hands, an inner tube, for instance, can be transformed into a fashionable boot or a hat with haute couture allure. For Maria Blaisse, the material is always the starting point, and she continually works with different materials and techniques. The Emergence of Form contains essays by dancer/choreographer Kenzo Kusada, designer Issey Miyake, writer Oek de Jong, architect Trude Hooykass, artist Joost Swarte, design curators Alexander von Vegesack and Mathias Schwartz-Clauss. Claire van Putten interviewed Maria Blaisse especially for this book.
