> The importance and history of Art & Project: one of the most important Dutch art galleries of the twentieth century
> With work by, amongst others, Stanley Brouwn, Jan Dibbets, Charlotte Posenenske, Gilbert&George, Lawrence Weiner and Sol LeWitt
> Exhibition The Love Of Art Comes First. Art & Project in the Kröller-Müller Museum, 30 Sep 2023 - 25 Feb 2024

For over 33 years, the Amsterdam gallery Art & Project (1968–1998) was a focal point in the development of contemporary art in the Netherlands and far beyond. Founders Geert van Beijeren (1933–2005) and Adriaan van Ravesteijn (1938–2015) presented a pioneering programme of works by both national and international artists. Marinus Boezem, Stanley Brouwn, Jan Dibbets, Gilbert & George, Charlotte Posenenske, Lawrence Weiner and Sol LeWitt are among the impressive array of artists who were associated with the gallery. To draw attention to their exhibitions, Van Beijeren and Van Ravesteijn published a total of 156 bulletins. The bulletin soon became an experimental medium; it became a vehicle for the ideas of conceptual artists and sometimes functioned as a conceptual work of art in its own right.

Art & Project: A History traces the history and influence of the gallery. The book approaches the exhibitions, the bulletins, the social network around the gallery and its influence in the (inter)national art world from different angles. Thanks to extensive research and previously unpublished (visual) material, this book provides an indispensable overview of a key part of the history of modern art in the Netherlands.
