DASH Housing Exhibitions

DASH 9 focuses on the objectives and outcomes of housing exhibitions. Exhibitions featuring actual dwellings – temporary or permanent – as built objects have had a significant impact on the development of 20th-century residential architecture.
Essays by Frederique van Andel, Lucy Craegh, Sandra Wagner-Conzelmann and Noud de Vreeze. An interview with Barry Bergdoll delves into the tradition of full-scale exhibition houses in the sculpture garden at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. And DASH looks ahead to IBA 2020 in Berlin with Vanessa Miriam Carlow of the Prae-IBA-Team.
The planning documentation encompasses the exhibitions Ein Dokument Deutscher Kunst in Darmstadt, Germany (1901), the Werkbund show in Vienna (1932), Quartiere Triennale 8 in Milan, Bo01 City of Tomorrow in Malmö (2001) and the IBA in Hamburg, which ended in 2013.
