A graphic novel about a thousand years of Groningen. Quirky City of the North
also available:
‘To understand a city, you have to get to know it. But this richly illustrated book does more than that. It shows that cultural education for young people – and everyone else – really comes alive when reading is fun.’
In Andreas Platthaus – Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
In STAD O5O, one thousand years of Groningen come to life in a compelling graphic novel. Author Auke Hulst and historian Martin Hillenga weave together history and imagination into a layered story about an independent city in the north. Their narrative is brought to life by twenty-one illustrators, two photographers and four poets, each offering a unique perspective on Groningen. From medieval trading town to the city of today, past, present and future come together in a rich visual and literary collage. Experimental in form yet deeply rooted in the city, STAD O5O will be distributed free of charge to every first-year secondary school pupil in Groningen for five years.
