Dutch Waterworks Worldwide x Pakhuis de Zwijger

A conversation about international waterworks and the influence of the Dutch on them worldwide

The Netherlands is a water country. For centuries, the Dutch have known how to protect themselves from water. In Dutch Waterworks Worldwide, architecture and landscape photographer Luuk Kramer travels to document waterworks by Dutch engineers around the world, from the sixteenth century to today. From polders in Poland to dykes and dams in Japan, from canals in Brazil to a lock in Suriname. On 12 September, we will discuss Luuk Kramer’s book Dutch Waterworks Worldwide. Afterwards, we will talk to several guests about the influence the Dutch have internationally on dealing with water. After all, Dutch experts in all kinds of countries are working on constructions to keep the water out. With the climate crisis on the horizon and rising sea levels just around the corner, Dutch water works are more relevant than ever.

Thursday 12 September, 20.00. Pakhuis de Zwijger, Great Hall, free admission. Language: Dutch.
