For Dutch Water Works Worldwide, architecture and landscape photographer Luuk Kramer traveled the globe to document water management projects by Dutch engineers spanning from the 16th century to today. From reclaiming land in Poland to building dikes and dams in Japan, and constructing canals in Brazil to small locks in Suriname. Dutch civil engineers brought centuries of expertise in delta living, shaped by dealing with floods, waterlogging, droughts, and land reclamation. They were invited by local authorities or arrived alongside colonial powers, resulting in diverse perspectives on their role and impact.
The culmination of this documentation will be showcased not only in a book but also at an exhibition at the Watersnoodmuseum in Ouwerkerk, The Netherlands. The book will be launched during the exhibition opening on June 29th. Through the exhibition, visitors will explore how Dutch knowledge of living in deltas, managing floods, droughts, and reclaiming land, has influenced global history: Dutch solutions to prevent floods, adapted and applied worldwide!
