Catalogue fall 2024

We proudly present our latest catalogue, fall 2024! Including all our new and upcoming books on architecture, art and design.

Today’s climate crisis did not happen overnight. As early as the 19th century, it was suggested that global warming was linked to CO2 emissions. Yet it took until 1968 – with the founding of the Club of Rome – for it to be seriously discussed in politics. From then on, discourse about designing a sustainable future entered the architectural realm. In It’s About Time, a team of authors, researchers and critics from the International Architecture Biennale Rotterdam (IABR) explores the intersection of architecture and climate activism since that period. It is inspiring to learn how solar-powered houses, earth buildings and other sustainable projects have already been designed and realised. And even if it was with varying degrees of success, the lessons that can be learned are all the more valuable for successfully tackling current transitions.

The past offers numerous avenues for thinking about sustainable relationships between nature, architecture and human beings. This is demonstrated by the poetic visual report Towards a Nude Architecture, celebrating the tradition of Japanese onsen, the natural hot springs that are an essential part of Japanese identity. The spiritual origins of bathing and the merging of nature, architecture and the human body in Japan’s more than 30,000 natural hot springs constitute a valuable heritage that provides inspiration for current nature-inclusive building.

This fall catalogue includes more examples of historical reflection on contemporary themes, as well as of artists and designers who challenge and enrich our views on these themes.
